Attendance

Parents/ Carers have responsibility for informing school of the reason for a child’s absence, either by letter, note in the home/school communication book, Parentmail or telephone the school admin team on 029 2056 3860. This ideally should be done before 9am or at the earliest convenience.

Parents/ Carers should inform school on the first day of absence and on every subsequent day of absence, providing further information if it is required. Parents/Carers need to notify the school of the nature of the illness, and when possible, predict the date of the child’s expected return.

For your information at Riverbank we consider attendance to be:

Excellent- 95% -100%

Very Good- 92%-94.9%

Good- 90%-91.9%

Poor- Below 90%

If there are concerns regarding your child's attendance, an Education Welfare Officer may be contacted. Cardiff Council follow a 5 step approach to managing attendance- the procedure is detailed below:

Step 1- School based intervention

Step 2- EWS advice

Step 3- EWS referrals

Step 4- Case review and assessment

Step 5- Formal statutory action

If you have any further queries regarding the 5 Step Approach, please contact Angela Gregory, Riverbank Attendance Officer who will be happy to discuss it in further detail.
