I’m Joce, the class teacher in Dosbarth Oren. Tash and Tammy are the amazing TA s and together make a great team, committed to supporting our children to be the best they can be in all that they do. Believing that children thrive on praise and encouragement, our classroom is a happy place to be – warm and welcoming with a positive ‘can do’ vibe.
We encourage our children to be as independent as possible and to have a go at most things themselves (we’re getting really good at putting on our coats and wellies to go out to play!). We promote turn taking and sharing to help develop social interaction skills and to build friendships. Our class characters Handy Andy, Pete the Feet and Curly Shirley help remind us of our rules - to have ‘kind hands’, ‘kind feet’ and to do ‘good listening’!
Effective communication is key to all that we do in Dosbarth Oren. We use a range of different communication strategies such as Makaton, gesture and visual prompts to aid the understanding of language and non-verbal children are encouraged to use PECS to request items that they want, therefore ensuring that they too have a voice.
We love to learn! When it’s circle-time, we rush into The Learning Den to gather around the Special Box to discover what exciting treasures lie inside each day. We delight in finding out whose turn it is to have their name and picture on our special board – and to ‘have a go’ at drawing and writing ourselves. We all cheer when Zippy Doo says, ‘Well done you – you’ re brilliant blue!’
We’re full of fun and love to bounce off our excess energy in our soft play area or hide amongst the trees in our forest school. In quieter moments, we like nothing better than to cwtch with a book, create ‘oodles of doodles’ on the writing table, or do a spot of cooking in the kitchen!
Take a look at some of the activities that have made us smile this term – ‘every picture tells a story!’
